We're trying Sunday evening this time for a relaxed weekend finishing up with good friends.

Please bring a potluck dinner item, finger foods, drinks, etc, but hey, please come without if you don't have time. We probably won't eat till 6:00, or so, so don't worry about being exactly on time. After dinner, those that wish can settle down and have some discussion.

Discussion topics:

  • Did Jesus Learn Healing Techniques in Egypt?
Was Jesus just another magician? Norman resident Harry Decker has researched the biblical tales of Jesus and has discovered parallels with Egyptian healing practices which were often used to amaze the crowds, not unlike the so-called healers and TV preachers of our own time. He will present some of his evidence and then be open for questions and discussion.
  • Future activities brainstorming

Point taken Cynthia. Thanks. Yes, we've had it suggested to watch "The God Who Wasn't There" and discuss this issue. Suffice it to say, there are two possibilities here worth discussing, that those on whom the Jesus stories are modeled performed these healing acts that may have been derived from Egyptian religion. Or, perhaps more pointedly, since the Jesus stories have much in common with the Egyptian god Horus, perhaps these are translated Horus tales. Sounds like we have a lot to talk about.

I think the topic is interesting but I don't believe there was a Jesus. However, I would be interested in learning a little history surrounding the phenomena of belief about him, I may bring a friend, I am trying hard to make it...The Master's program is very consuming.
